Amazon introduces generative AI to assist sellers in crafting product descriptions.

Generative artificial intelligence, known as generative AI, is making waves in helping with tasks like creating spreadsheets, adding captions to images, and even writing essays, poems, and presentations. Now, Amazon is harnessing the latest AI advancements to improve how sellers handle their listings. They're rolling out a new set of generative AI features to make it easier for sellers to write compelling product descriptions, titles, and listing details. These upgrades will speed up the process of listing new products and make existing listings more informative, helping customers feel more confident about their purchases.

Crafting engaging product titles, bullet points, and descriptions has always been a time-consuming task for sellers. However, Amazon is changing the game by offering new generative AI features to simplify this process. These features streamline the need for sellers to input various product details by condensing it into just one step.

Powered by large language models (LLMs), which are machine learning models trained extensively on vast amounts of data, these new capabilities can understand, summarize, translate, predict, and generate text and other content to create more detailed product descriptions.

To kickstart the process, sellers only need to provide a brief product description in a few words or sentences. From there, Amazon generates high-quality content for their review. Sellers have the option to refine this content further or submit it directly to the Amazon catalog. These enhancements enable sellers to create top-notch listings with minimal effort, presenting customers with comprehensive, consistent, and captivating product information that elevates their shopping experience.

Amazon has long relied on machine learning and deep learning to automatically extract and enhance product details. According to my colleague Robert Tekiela, vice president of Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems, "Our new generative AI models allow us to deduce, refine, and enhance product understanding on an unprecedented scale, significantly boosting quality, performance, and efficiency. These models learn to deduce product details from various sources of information, latent knowledge, and logical reasoning they acquire. For instance, they can deduce the shape of a table if its specifications mention a diameter or determine the collar style of a shirt from its image."

By leveraging generative AI, Amazon continues to enhance the customer review experience. The introduction of AI-generated customer review highlights is just one of the many advancements in improving reviews. In addition to saving time for sellers, more comprehensive product descriptions also enhance the shopping journey. Customers benefit from richer product information, thanks to the new technology simplifying the process for sellers.

Amazon announced the new generative AI capabilities at Accelerate 2023, Amazon’s premier, annual seller conference.

Many sellers have tested Amazon’s latest AI offerings throughout the past few months, and early feedback indicates that the majority of those sellers are directly using the listing content the AI model creates for them. Starting to simplify listing creation using AI is just one way that Amazon is making it easier for sellers to launch and build a successful business. This is just the beginning of how amazon plan to use AI to help improve the seller experience and help more sellers succeed.
